OB-8F-15W

OB-8F-15W

The OB-8F-15W is our main baffle setup, using the combination of an 8 inch FR driver and a 15 inch subwoofer. We use the Lii Audio Fast 8 as our bass driver and we add the SB Audience Bianco 15 as our subwoofer. We offer additional customizations, including color and wood type, driver options, and amplifier options. There are many 8 inch full range drivers that could be substituted, and we have tried a few. Overall, we feel the Lii and Audio Nirvana drivers are the best values going. See below for additional upgrades offered and the associated costs.

Lii Audio Fast 8: This FR is offered as our bass driver due to its overall great performance. The Lii is not as extended in the treble compared to the Audio Nirvana, but it has a smoother overall response and has a bit more bloom in the lower midrange/upper bass. Detail and presence are excellent, but a bit less than the Audio Nirvana driver. Best suited for neutral to cool amps.

Audio Nirvana Super 8 (+$90): This FR has the highest detail and extension in the treble region. In addition, it has a higher max output before distortion. The driver’s excursion is not as far or as free as the Fast 8. It is tight by design to limit excursions. It really plays with incredible detail and presence. Better suited to be used with neutral to warm amps.

Lii Audio Silver 8 (+$220): This FR is also available as a substitute and represents our best offering for our 8 inch baffles. This driver is a noticeable improvement from the other two in midrange and treble refinement, with a couple of added DB of output. Works well with any amp from 3 watts and up.

Any of the above driver options represent my recommendation at their respective price levels. Any will work great with any amp, but they each will have a different “flavor”. Other driver options or other color finishes can be considered. Contact us to discuss your needs.

SB Audience Bianco 15:  This is the clear winner in the budget open-baffle woofer competition. Other offerings from Eminence and Goldwood were good in some respects, but not as complete overall. The Bianco has much greater excursion and a lower QTS. It is a bit lower in sensitivity but has greater extension and control than the others. It has a stamped steel frame like the others, but it is much nicer and has arches in the legs that stiffen along the length and width of each.  We treat each woofer basket leg with damping material to reduce resonance. It works very well with all of the plate amps that I paired with it and was able to handle extra power with ease.

Dayton Audio SPA300-D: 150 watts at 8 ohms, 300 watts at 4 ohms. Crossover from 40-200 HZ. Defeatable 30Hz - 6dB Boost setting.

Yung SD 300: 150 watts at 8 ohms, 300 at 4ohms. Crossover from 40-200 Hz with or without 30Hz - 6dB Boost setting.

Typical in-room Frequency Response: 35-18,000Hz 95 to 97 dB/1w/1m

How-to build: Use the buttons below to build your custom open baffle loudspeakers. The buttons indicate any additional charges for upgraded customizations. Start with wood type and color - we do not recommend chevron wood with the black color as you do not see the wood pattern as well. The side rails come standard in black unless otherwise indicated by you.
